A different CoW on the streets. CoW: Casino on Wheels

Every afternoon I waited for that familiar sound of a bell.

At 1:30 pm, every day Kamal kulfi wala (ice cream man) used to visit our street with a cart full of malai kulfi. This was in the late 1990s but Kamal was way ahead of his time. He had 3 product plans. ₹1 for small, ₹2 for medium & ₹4 for a large kulfi. Quite evidently, he pushed his middle & top plans more.

All SaaS companies are now following Kamal in both these aspects. 😅

An interesting add on that came with just the middle & top plan was a chance at a slot machine! 😲

Kamal’s cart had a metal shaped hand. Pressing the hand pushed out a token with a number from the box below. The number on the token was the number of kulfi’s you’d get at the price of one.

Kamal knew the addiction that comes with variable rewards. All of us 5–6 yr olds were addicts. 😂

He had us hooked over a decade before Nir Eyal gave us the model. Before Google made the whole country look for virtual rangolis. Though I didn’t get as many “Better Luck Next Time” there. 🙃

He wasn’t selling ice creams & HE HAD A CASINO on WHEELS 🎰
